In Class Listening - Parliament

Hey Readers,

This week, we listened to Parliament.  I was super excited because I love Parliament.  I love jazz and funk and all of the like, so when Parliament was mentioned, my ears perked up.  Their concerts look incredibly fun, what with the UFOs landing on stage and whatnot.  They even have their own style of music, called P-Funk.  Parliament and Funkadelic were both good, but I like Parliament a tad more, because, dare I say it, they were "funkier".  Here is a quick look into the musical act known as Parliament.

Give Up The Funk

Aqua Boogie

Mothership Connection

Flashlight

Not Just Knee Deep
(Sampled by De La Soul for their song "Me Myself and I")

Well that's the best of Parliament.  If you can't get enough of them, then look into Funkadelic and George Clinton.  So much good music to be heard!  Well, thanks for reading The Jack Barton Blog and have a nice day!

What I'm Listening To - Dylan Owen

Hey Readers,

This week I decided to introduce y'all to Dylan Owen.  He does not look like a rapper, probably the farthest from, but he really is impressive.  Unlike many of the rappers I post about, he makes songs about things that matter and not simply about partying and all that jazz.  His lyrics are really good and his freestyles and rap battles are phenomenal, so make sure to check that out too.  But without further ado, I give you Dylan Owen!

In The Corner

All I Do

Old Armor

Dreams

The Book Report

Ghosts

Dylan Owen is very talented and good to his fans.  Like him on Facebook, follow him on Twitter, subscribe to him on YouTube and download his music!  He, like many of the musicians I listen to, has mixtapes available for free download right on his website, so check that out.  Alright guys, once again thanks for reading The Jack Barton Blog and have a good day!

In Class Listening - Led Zeppelin IV

Hey Readers,

This week in class we listened to Led Zeppelin's fourth album, which so happens to be my favorite.  My mom got me Zeppelin IV on CD for Christmas four or five years ago and I listened to it nonstop.  Contrary to popular belief, there is more to this album than simply Staircase to Heaven and Black Dog.  I'd like to post some videos of my favorite songs on the album, I hope you also enjoy them.

When The Levee Breaks

Four Sticks

Misty Mountain Hop

Black Dog

Stairway To Heaven

Well, those are my favorite songs off of Zeppelin IV.  I hope you enjoyed them, I really do.  Don't get me wrong, the other songs on the album are awesome, but they don't speak to me as much as these do.  I'm not a huge fan of slower songs.  Anyways, thanks for reading The Jack Barton Blog and have a nice day!

What I'm Listening to - G-Eazy

Hey Readers,

This week I'm going to talk about the rapper G-Eazy.  You may remember me mentioning him from an earlier blog, the one where I attended a Hoodie Allen concert in which G-Eazy opened.  G-Eazy is a very interesting rapper, because he is different than the others.  He dresses like someone from the fifties, hairstyle and all.  He has a very recognizable voice, one that I enjoy.  Here is some of his best music.

Runaround Sue

Loaded
(Might not be appropriate for all audiences)

Marilyn

Plastic Dreams

Lady Killers (feat. Hoodie Allen)
(I know I posted this before, but it's still a good song)

Breathe

And that's G-Eazy for you!  Please support him and tell your friends, because he really deserves fame.  I'll put some links at the bottom for you to check out.  Well thanks for reading The Jack Barton Blog and have a nice day!

In Class Listening - Simon & Garfunkel

Hey Readers,

This week we listened to Simon & Garfunkel.  I really like Simon & Garfunkel because of their talent at writing songs, use of harmonies, and their happiness.  My favorite song that we listened to in class was the song Keep the Customer Satisfied.  Here is another sampler plate of some of their best music for your listening pleasure!

Sounds of Silence

Keep the Customer Satisfied

The Boxer

Scarborough Fair

Bridge Over Troubled Water

So that's a small look at Simon & Garfunkel.  I told my parents that I was writing about Simon & Garfunkel and they laughed because this was popular music when they were young.  I'll be very dissapointed if my kids have to learn about Justin Bieber or One Direction.  Anyways, thanks for reading The Jack Barton Blog and have a nice day!

What I'm Listening To - Huey Mack

Hey Readers,

This week I'm showcasing Huey Mack.  Huey is a rapper from West Virginia, but don't let that fool you.  He does a lot of work with Mike Stud who I previously featured.  He's just starting to blow up, so remember that you heard it here first!  Here's a sampler of some of his music.

Just Me

Wide Awake

Call Me Maybe

Looking At The Sky

Love This Life

Middle Finger Music

By Your Side

Clique

Nothing Back

Well that's Huey Mack.  I really like his music.  It's not deep or meaningful but it's lighthearted party music.  Thanks for reading The Jack Barton Blog and have a nice day!

In Class Listening - Black Sabbath

Hey Readers,

This week in class we listened to Black Sabbath.  Now I'm not a huge fan, but I appreciate what they've done for music.  One of my favorite things about Black Sabbath is that their guitarist, Tony Iommi, is left-handed.  As a leftie myself, I really like to see when other lefties make it big in everything, especially music.  I've compiled the top three most famous Black Sabbath songs, for a quick overview of their work.

War Pigs

Paranoid

Iron Man

Those are some of the most famous Black Sabbath songs.  I'm not a fan of metal, but I can appreciate Black Sabbath's music.  Thanks for reading The Jack Barton Blog and have a nice day!

What I'm Listening To - Adventures in Jack's Record Collection (Hubert Laws, Ronnie Laws, and the Brecker Brothers)

Hey Readers,

This week I went through my record collection and pulled out some gems.  I'm a sucker for jazz and funk music, so when I found these artists, I was overjoyed.  I found two sets of brothers.  The Brecker Brothers are an incredible duo of jazz musicians I just can't put down.  I also found an album by Hubert Laws and one by Ronnie Laws.  I thought they might be brothers, but just looked into it, and they are.  Born and raised in Houston, Texas, older brother Hubert and younger brother Ronnie have made huge ground in the genre of jazz.  Here are some samples of their music for your listening pleasure:

The Brecker Brothers

Some Skunk Funk

Straphangin'

Sponge

Hubert Laws

I Had A Dream

Family (with sister Debra Laws)

Undecided

Ronnie Laws

Always There

Friends and Strangers

Saturday Evening

Well thank you for listening!  I really love to share what I'm listening to and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!  Thanks for reading The Jack Barton Blog and have a nice day!
