In Class Listening - Stevie Wonder (Talking Book)

Hey Readers,

This week in class we listened to Stevie Wonder's album Talking Book.  I feel like I'm going to get a lot of crap for this, but it really wasn't my favorite.  I do appreciate Stevie Wonder, I think he's incredibly talented. It would be hard enough to play all of those instruments by yourself, but doing so while being blind is incredible.  I just didn't feel the music speak to me.  I did geek out when Superstition came on because of my inner bassist.  It seemed a bit slow to me, but here are the songs that stood out to me on Talking Book.

Superstition

You Are The Sunshine Of My Life

I usually post more songs, but I honestly didn't enjoy this album too much.  It didn't really speak to me.  But the songs above are killer.  Check them out for sure, and hey, check out Talking Book too.  Just because it wasn't my favorite doesn't mean that you won't like it.  Well, thanks for reading The Jack Barton Blog and have a nice day!

What I'm Listening To - Hoodie Allen (Crew Cuts)

Hey Readers,

This week, my favorite artist, Hoodie Allen, whom I have mentioned multiple times in past blog posts, released a new mixtape entitled Crew Cuts.  He plans to release a full album and an EP by the time 2013 is over.  Before releasing Crew Cuts, he put out music videos for two of the songs on the mixtape, Cake Boy and Fame Is For Assholes.  Hoodie Allen got a good deal of negative feedback from Cake Boy, because it kind of strays from Hoodie's trademark sound.  However, he made up for it by having FIFA (Fame Is For Assholes) and a ton of other incredible songs.  My favorites are FIFA, Cake Boy, Reunion, and Cassanova, but I'll probably add more to that list soon enough.  Something new for Hoodie is having features on his mixtape.  It includes features from Chiddy Bang (hell yes), Chance The Rapper, OCD:  Moosh and Twist, Skizzy Mars, G-Eazy (hell yes), Jared Evans, and Schwayze.  This mixtape is incredible and there isn't a single song that isn't amazing.  I highly recomend checking it out.  I have placed below the videos for Cake Boy and FIFA, as well as the entire album in one video.  You can click on the song you want and it will play.  Crazy.  Well, don't let me keep you, listen away!

Fame Is For Assholes

(You can click the song name and it will play)

Alright guys, if I haven't made it clear to you, I really love Hoodie Allen.  He is incredibly talented and his interviews are amazing.  Crew Cuts is available for free on his website and he will be in town at Emo's East performing with Jared Evans and Aer on March 29th.  I'll be there.  Will you?  Thanks for reading The Jack Barton Blog and have a nice day!

In Class Listening - Curtis Mayfield

Hey Readers,

This week in class we listened to Curtis Mayfield.  He famously recorded the soundtrack to the movie Superfly.  He was twice inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  He was very politically active and  a pioneer of funk music.  His music was very popular during the Civil Rights Movement.  I personally love his music because I love funk and I think it's very catchy.  Here is my sampler for Curtis Mayfield.

Move On Up

Freddie's Dead

Superfly

Pusherman

So those are some of my favorite Curtis Mayfield songs.  I hope you enjoyed them!  Sadly, Curtis died in 1999, but as cliche as it sounds, he lives on in his music.  Well, thank you for reading The Jack Barton Blog and have a nice day!

What I'm Listening To - Cam Meekins

Hey Readers,

This week I have been listening to Cam Meekins.  He is definitely a case of more than meets the eye.  One might not expect one with his looks to be so good at rapping, but like many of my previous blog subjects, he is very talented.  I started listening to Cam Meekins maybe two years ago and I've never stopped.  His music is very catchy and you can really tell he cares about what he puts out.  Here is my little sampler plate of Cam Meekins.

Rain

Cut Me Off

Freestyle

Living It Up

This & That

Two Roads

So that's Cam Meekins.  I hope you enjoyed his music, and as always, tell your friends about him!  I've included some links below where you can keep up with his antics and download his music.  Well, thanks for reading The Jack Barton Blog and have a nice day!

In Class Listening - The Last Waltz

Hey Readers,

This week in class we watched the movie The Last Waltz.  The Last Waltz is a movie about the musical group The Band.  I really liked The Band when we first listened to them so it was really good to watch this movie about them.  Not only did it feature many of their songs, it also featured many artists, such as Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, and Eric Clapton.  Here are a few of my favorite parts of the movie.

Movie Trailer

Eric Clapton

Van Morrison

The Weight

The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down

Up On Cripple Creek

If you haven't seen this movie, then I highly recomend it.  It's really cool even if you don't like The Band.  Well, thanks for reading The Jack Barton Blog and have a nice day!

What I'm Listening To - Jake Broido

Hey Readers,

This week I've been listening to Jake Broido.  He's a very talented singer and good friend of one of my favorite YouTubers Jimmy Tatro.  I found out about Jake through Jimmy's videos and I'm glad I did.  It's kind of girly music, but I can still appreciate him and I'd like to spread the word.  Below I've posted a few of his videos.  Be sure to check them out!

Invincible

Good Looks LA

Drake Acapella Medley

Listen Baby

Whiskey On The Rocks

Usher Acapella Medley

What It's Like To Be You

I hope you liked Jake Broido, but if not then that's alright too.  Make sure to tell your friends about him because he's very talented and deserves to be making some money.  As usual, I've included links below for your listening pleasure.  Well, thanks for reading The Jack Barton Blog and have a nice day!
