This week in class we listened to the first two albums by The Rolling Stones; England's Newest Hit Makers, and 12 X 5. My thoughts in all honesty could be summed up in a single word. Meh. I feel as if The Rolling Stones are overhyped and overrated. They lack something to set them apart from other groups of the time. Some may say that they are young and need time for their sound to mature, but nothing really changed between their first and second albums. Honestly, when they started playing Under The Boardwalk, I thought it was a joke. They tried way too hard.
Really?
Not everything I have to say is negative though. I do commend them on putting themselves out there in a market to compete for hits with legendary musicians like The Beatles. And although I don't quite understand the allure that they posses, they have a very strong fan following. Check out their website, it's beautifully done. As always, thank you for reading The Jack Barton Blog, and have a nice day!
This Tuesday my friend and I went to see Hoodie Allen perform with G-Eazy at the Beauty Ballroom. It was incredible! G-Eazy opened for Hoodie and played a multitude of spectacular songs. One of the songs actually featured Hoodie Allen and so he came on the stage for his part, then took off once it was over.
Lady Killers
After G-Eazy was done, Hoodie Allen came on. It was an incredible performance. He performed not only new songs from his EP "All-American", but also old mixtapes like "Pep Rally" and "Leap Year". I sang along to every song and had quite a good time. At one point in the concert there was even a dance off between four members of the audience.
I can only hope that Hoodie Allen and G-Eazy had as great of a time as I did. They have a lot of their music for free on their websites, so go check them out! Lastly, I would like to commend the two of them on their fantastic showmanship, keep up the good work guys! Thanks for reading The Jack Barton Blog, and have a nice day!
In class this week, we watched A Hard Day's Night; a movie about The Beatles. It's quite interestingly done, because it isn't made like a movie, but also isn't made like a documentary. It is scripted, but loosely, and shows the true personalities of The Beatles. I really liked this movie, because it played on the humorous personalities of The Beatles. I can only assume how long the lines were to get into the movie theater back in 1964 to see this masterpiece.

The original trailer from 1964
Well, those are my thoughts on this movie, I reccomend it to anyone who likes The Beatles or just enjoys good music in general. Thanks for reading The Jack Barton Blog, and have a nice day!
Zak Downtown is an up and coming rapper from New York. I found out about him from a song he did with my current favorite musician Hoodie Allen, who I posted about a while ago. He combines his rapping with electronic based production and the result is fantastic.
One For The Books
I love his shirt in this video.
Give Me The World
Clap Your Hands
Blood Flow
Kiss Me Goodnight
Poppin' Pills
Rock The Show (ft. Hoodie Allen)
This was the song that got me interested in Zak Downtown.
I quite enjoy his music and I wanted to spread the word. Thanks for reading The Jack Barton Blog, and have a nice day!
In class this week we started to watch a movie about The Beatles first visit to America. One of the best parts of the video was when Paul called a radio dj a wanker and the dj didn't understand and thought it was a compliment. I really enjoyed this movie, and hope that other videos we watch in class will be this interesting. It effectively showed their talent, while also showing their humorous side.
The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show
One of my favorite parts of the video is the girls' reaction to them shaking their hair. It shows that girls haven't changed that much. Also, I find it incredible that they were able to be perfectly on pitch every single song, every single show, without microphones in their ears, and unable to hear not only the band, but also not able to hear themselves over the screaming fans. It makes me wonder, who will be the next big band to be as successful and loved as The Beatles. Again, thank you for reading The Jack Barton Blog, and have a nice day!
I discovered Nick Luebke a while back, when he released his remix of Call Me Maybe. He is a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and I think he has what it takes to make it big in the music world. He sings and raps in a very happy and upbeat manner. I'll post some links to his videos, so you can check him out.
Call Me Maybe (Remix)
This is his most famous video, with almost 500,000 views.
(To clear up the confusion, this video was filmed during St. Patrick's Day.)

I think that this video conveys his true talent, minus the studio editing.
Well, that's Nick Luebke. I think he's very talented and if you do too, tell your friends and get his name out there. Well, thank you for reading The Jack Barton Blog, and have a nice day!
In class this week, we have been listening to the first two albums from the Beatles. My favorite Beatles albums are Abbey Road and Revolver, but Please Please Me is definitely climbing the charts. Although there are many covers of songs on this album, I think that The Beatles cover them fantastically, adding their own personal charm. Here are some links to my favorite songs on the album.
Love Me Do
I have always loved this song. This song utilizes the harmonica, a much overlooked instrument.
I Saw Her Standing There
This song is an original and an incredible way to start an album.
Misery
This song was new to me and I really liked all of the harmonies!
Chains
I don't know what I enjoyed about this song, but I really liked it.
There are so many more songs that are spectacular on this album, but these are some of my favorites. Some were kind of strange, like the song A Taste of Honey, but even that one was fun to listen to, because of the changes between 3/4 and 4/4 time.
Anyway, thank you for reading The Jack Barton Blog, and have a nice day!
After stumbling upon D-Why, my mind has been blown. A rapper out of West Virginia, he makes some incredible music which he often combines with his love for fancy clothing.
"I'm Ralph Lauren meets Lauryn Hill,
Baby I am more than ill,
It be takin' more than skill,
When you go in for the kill."
- D-Why "Shooter McGavin"
He also has a blog, which is very interesting and incredibly well done. It has sections for music, fashion, pictures, you name it! Here is a link:

Devil Horns To All
(A remix of the song Black and Yellow by Wiz Khalifa)

Animal
Well, those are my thoughts on D-Why! Check him out, you won't regret it. And as always, thank you for reading The Jack Barton Blog, and have a nice day!
